I have known Daniel for 6 & a half years. Initially as an instructor & now as a friend. I learned from Dan in group setting but he would always take the time to work with me in the class to ensure I was understanding & implementing techniques correctly. I was a particularly anxious student & I was pretty hard on myself.
Dan picked up on this. Once I started competing I would find that my anxiety would hinder my ability to compete to the best of my ability. I knew that Dan had done allot of work on his own personal progression in this area & I sought his advice.
He was so kind & helpful in his approach. He gave me tangible techniques that I could practice & use in order to overcome my anxiety. He also made me very aware that I was not alone in feeling the way I did & he went on to become a great supporter of my competitive endeavors. Daniel is a passionate & professional instructor & has allot of experience helping others.
I fully recommend his service & wish him great success with the lighthouse Jiu jitsu project.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Dan for a couple of years now. From the start he has always been passionate about jiu-jitsu, taking his time to ensure you have understood the techniques shown.
There have been many occasions that I have needed a variation shown, as I'm a little shorter, and he has invested time in finding a way that suits me a little better. Dan has also highlighted aspects of my jiu-jitsu that have changed my mindset, in the way I evaluate post matches - teaching me the importance of positive feedback, rather then dwelling on what I considered bad.
I have always found Dan approachable and easy to talk to, particularly when asking advice about an off-mat defence situation which had led to a knock in my confidence on the mats. Despite the situation being relatively insignificant, Dan understood the impact it had and ensured I came away from the chat with him with more confidence. He is truly an inspiration to everyone, and with incredible emotional intelligence is one of the best jiu-jitsu coaches/mentors I've ever had the pleasure learning and training with.

I’ve been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for nearly 8 years and in that time I’ve not only trained alongside Dan, but I have also trained with him, attended his weekly classes and also the competition classes run by Dan.
In addition to this I have had one-to-one private sessions with Dan, and I can honestly say that you’ll be hard pressed to find someone who is not only as knowledgeable, but loves what they do as much as he does!
He also competes at the highest level and suffers with all the usual anxieties (possibly more so) that these events can cause, so if you’re feeling those insecurities and self-doubts creeping in, then you can be safe in the knowledge that Dan has felt the same way too and learned how to deal with them!
As someone who suffers with mental health, it’s very reassuring to know Dan is in your corner when you’re not feeling 100%. It might only be a look he gives you or the odd well placed word or two, but that’s usually all it takes and that means so much on those ‘dark days’.
I honestly can’t recommend Dan highly enough, and you can rest assured anything he does he will do it to his very best ability. Dan is an amazing teacher, an awesome opponent, and an incredible friend and I wish him every success!

The hardest thing I've found in life is overcoming mental barriers, starting Jiu Jitsu was the hardest thing I had ever done. Dan Lewis made my first class an awesome experience that I'd never forget.
He made me feel so welcome and explained everything in clear details. Until this day he has helped me and continues to help me through my life of jiu-jitsu. I'll never underestimate how much that first experience mattered.
He's an amazing coach and an inspiration to all of the RGA Bucks family but more importantly he's a great friend. I'll forever be in his debt.

I've been fortunate enough to train with Dan a number of times over the past two years. On every instance, he has always stood out for going above and beyond as a coach.
His experience and tuition go without saying, but above that he doesn't stop at the curriculum - Dan makes the time to address your anxieties, and puts genuine care into building your confidence and self-belief.
Having had my own struggles with anxiety in the sport, I feel that instructors like Dan are rare. You can tell when meeting him how much of his own heart he puts into supporting his team, and you won't find an instructor more committed to developing others, whatever your level is.
I would encourage others to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from Dan, without hesitation.
